Design and Features of the BIBO 3D Printer

One of the best attributes of this 3D printer is its large color touchscreen. It is user-friendly and intuitive. It has a filament runout detection sensor. This sensor will detect when the filament is almost out and pause the printer. Not all printers in this price range have this function. Otherwise, when the filament runs out, you have to start the project over from the beginning. The pause function on the BIBO Printermeans that you can put in another spool and continue your project. This feature alone can save you tons of time and frustration. Imagine starting a print and returning hours later only to find that only a few layers were printed.

Another excellent feature of this printer is that you can control it via smartphone and Wi-Fi. You can also connect it to your computer via a USB cable if you choose. By far one of the coolest features of the BIBO 3D printer is its engraving ability. You can engrave tons of materials, including leather, paper, cardboard, wood, and plastic. This feature is perfect for personalizing objects or doing artwork.

BIBO 3D Printer

The printer is compatible with most Mac, Windows, and Linux systems. It is also compatible with open source software which includes Simplify3D, Cura, Makeware, and Repetier-Host. It has a glass print bed that is 8.4 x 7.3 x 6.3 inches and has removable glass that makes it easy to remove your projects. The bed will heat up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit, which allows you to use different types of filament. This greatly reduces the chance of any warping or curling. Also, there are several cooling fans which is especially important when you wish to print with PLA filament.

The printer has a small footprint and easily fits on a desktop. It looks like it belongs in a laboratory and is made of sturdy metal components. It has dual extrusion, which means that you can do two-toned and multi-material prints.

One thing that we liked about this printer is that it works with several file formats. The good news here is that this means there are already a large number of patterns available. It prints reasonably quickly, depending on the object, its complexity and the size of the file. Overall, this 3D printer produced excellent quality results, and we experienced no problems while using it. It appears to be a well-designed printer that is perfect for a small operation or personal use.

We did put it through its paces with multiple print jobs of the same object. It was consistent between the various copies of the object. The last one was as clear as the first one. We did not experience any problems with overheating or issues with the extruder. There is no reason to believe that this machine would not be reliable for medium to large print jobs.

BIBO 3D Print Quality

Hands down the print quality of this printer is excellent. Its Dual extruders make it extremely versatile and fun to print with. The extruders are stable and precise, which allows you to do complex designs and achieve clear results. Another fantastic feature when it comes to printing is its direct-drive extruder technology. This feature prevents the filament from bending in the tube. This means that when you have to print multiples of the same component, there will be excellent consistency between them.

One of the features that surprised us about this printer is after a loss in power you don’t have to start your print over from the beginning. This printer has a detector that will allow it to simply pick up where you left off once your power comes back on. This allows you to have perfectly flawless prints every time. Regardless of whether running out of filament or a power outage interrupts the process you’re covered. This is something that few 3D printers can do.

Packing and Assembly

We felt that the packing of the printer was well thought out and did an excellent job of protecting our precious 3D printer.

The BIBO 3D Printer comes nearly fully assembled except for a few components including the dual extruders and acrylic covers. Assembling these few components is pretty straightforward. Read the instruction manual, hook the printer to your system using the USB cable, and you are ready to begin your printing adventures.

Support

The printer manufacturer is in China, but with just a little bit of searching, it was found that there are some groups and forums just for BIBO printers. There is a BIBO group on 3dhubs called “BIBO talk.” There is also a user group on Thingiverse. In general, we found that the groups were small, but there are some print files available. We did find that technicians frequent the forums and questions are answered quickly.

There are not a lot of files specifically for BIBO, and the groups tend to be small at this point. However, our experiences with this printer indicate that this will become a more popular printer as time goes on, and these groups can be expected to grow. Even though there are not a lot of files available for this model, it accepts a wide number of formats. Based on the fast replies in the forums from technicians, we would expect their customer service is pretty good.
